Califonia State - Ships Fee Increased to $1,000 Effective 1st April 2017
Overview
The California State Lands Commission (CSLC) approved regulations that increased the fee paid by vessels with a qualifying voyage arrival at a California port. The fee was increased from $850 to $1,000. The Board of Equalization will begin collecting the increased fee on or after 1st April 2017. The Marine Invasive Species Act requires ships over 300 GRT and carrying or capable of carrying ballast water that arrive at a California port to submit a US Coast Guard Ballast Water Management Report to the CSLC.
In December 2016, the California State Lands Commission (CSLC) approved regulations that increased the fee paid by ships with a qualifying voyage arrival at a California port. The fee was increased from $850 to $1,000. The Board of Equalization will begin collecting the increased fee on or after 1st April 2017.
The fee is deposited into the Marine Invasive Species Control Fund and funds the state's Marine Invasive Species Program.
The Marine Invasive Species Act requires ships over 300 GRT and carrying or capable of carrying ballast water that arrive at a California port to submit a US Coast Guard Ballast Water Management Report (OMB No. 1625-0069) to the CSLC.
Ships must submit the Ballast Water Management Report at least 24 hours before arrival at that California port. If the ship’s voyage is less than 24 hours, the ship must submit the report prior to departing the port of departure.
